This page provides downloads for 3D computer animated short films from
the timeframe of 1980-1989
This film was created at Ohio State University to demonstrate the rendering of a particle system. Download This Video
Deja Vu (1987)
This piece was a popular one at computer art festivals in it's time.
It's unique because of it's use of natural colors and lighting.
There's also cetain points in this film where it becomes pixelated, this is not an encoding error.
My hypothesis is that it was done to decrease the strain on the hardware of the time.
This particular film is one of my favorites. Download This Video
Don't Touch Me (1989)
The animation on this one is poor by today's standards, but in 1989 this was a groundbreaking achievement.
The song is also pretty decent. The singer's name (not the 3D model) is Perla Batalia Download This Video
This film is notable for it's experimentation with flocking AI animal animation, and character rigging. Download This Video
Eurythmy Motion Studies (1985)
This is an earlier version of the above video, Eurythmy. This earlier version is rendered in wireframe vector
graphics and includes a few animations not present in the final cut. Download This Video
Fabricated Rhythm (1985)
A simulation of cloth physics, it contains two scenes. One with curtains falling off of a window and strewn
across the room. The second scene is clothes being draped over a set of three mannequins.
There is an alternative cut without the second scene, this cut is of unknown origin. Download This Video Download Alternative Version
First Contact (1989)
This is one of many animated shorts created by the Apple Advanced Technology Group, which was
part of the Apple Corporation. It was made to promote their Macintosh line of computers as
a creative platform for video and film production. Download This Video
Hawaiian Punch (1987)
With music by Mark Mothersbaugh of DEVO, this advertisement for Hawaiian Punch is as stereotypically 1980s as you can get.
There does (as far as I can tell) exist another version where the Hawaiian Punch branding is replaced with "Too Far Juice".
However, I don't have it in a form that can be archived by itself. If you do know anything, please send me an email. Download This Video
Her Majesty's Secret Serpent (1989)
Watch as the best agent MI6 has to offer fails horribly to secure a satellite film canister.
This film is notable for it's research into autonomous behaviour.
It is yet another film sponsored by the Apple Corporation. Download This Video
High Fidelity (1984)
This piece is iconic amongst early 80s 3D Animation.
It was also commonly used in compilations such as The Mind's Eye series. Download This Video
This piece shows the power of the AT&T Pixel Machine 964 by rendering hundreds of different animated entities simultaneously.
This is another one of my favorite pieces. Download This Video
Mental Images (1987)
This piece was notable at the time for it's use of abstract art when a large number of renderings still involved
spheres or teapots Download This Video
Natural Phenomena (1988)
This piece is a compilation of clips involving the simulation of natural phenomena. Download This Video
Peedee Meets the Dragon (1989)
This piece contains the very first realistic fire effect in a three dimensional computer animation..
The plot is very simple. An orange dinosaur named Peedee encounters a dragon and dies a fiery, gruesome death. Download This Video
